If you struggle to get a good night’s rest for one day, not much will happen besides you feeling tired and unmotivated. Continuous lack of sleep can lead to daytime fatigue, heart disease, high blood pressure, and more.
At Kenilworth Dental Associates, we believe that everyone deserves to sleep well. Therefore, whatever is keeping you from a fulfilling night’s rest, whether it’s obstructive sleep apnea or snoring, Dr. Miriam Dani can help. She is a qualified sleep dentist who works closely with local health professionals to provide a holistic approach to improving your sleep quality with oral appliance therapy.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a severe disorder where breathing is restricted during sleep. It’s caused by an obstruction in the airway which is usually the result of collapsed soft tissue. When the airway is blocked, air to the lungs is prevented, and this causes snoring and other symptoms to develop.
While sleep apnea requires immediate support from a professional, it can go unidentified for years. Thankfully, awareness for the disorder is growing, and people are starting to recognize the symptoms and seek the correct medical attention.
For your convenience, we’ve designed this website to educate you about sleep apnea and how to accurately spot it before more severe consequences appear.

Understanding Oral Appliance Therapy
Some of our patients are interested in a non-invasive treatment for sleep apnea and alternative for CPAP machines. In these cases, Dr. Dani offers oral appliance therapy. This mouthguard-like apparatus is custom-designed to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness.
Oral appliance therapy works by gently repositioning your jaw and tongue so that they don’t obstruct the airway. With this approach to sleep apnea treatment, you can avoid the discomfort associated with CPAP machines and start sleeping better immediately.

The best way to find out if you have sleep apnea is by undergoing a sleep study. A sleep study can be performed under the supervision of a physician in a lab, or in the privacy of your own home. It will record data such as oxygen levels, brain activity, and muscle movement and a physician will determine if, in fact, you have sleep apnea. Then we can start treatment right away.
